The report attached, issued by the Marine Safety Forum,is a good example of why is is critical to use the right equipment for the job. I have seen this spring loaded release mechanism used at 2 separate training establishments running FRB courses.Training providers should use the right equipment,the minimum standard for FRB painters on Seismic vessels that I have worked on is 20mm diameter polypropylene line with G link fitted.It would be unfortunate had the crew installed the quick release,spring loaded mechanism on their vessel as that is what they had trained with on their FRB courses.
